Peri-implantitis is a disease that threatens implant survival long-term. For clinicians and hygienists, there is no clear consensus on how to prevent and treat this fast-growing problem. This presentation will provide an overview of the diagnosis of peri-implant disease and treatment considerations. The decision tree for different treatment modalities will be highlighted, including non-surgical therapy with antimicrobial agents, different prosthetic treatment options, including CAD/CAM restorations to optimize plaque control and maintain health around implant-supported restorations. The maintenance protocol for the implant patient will be discussed in detail.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the latest prevalence diagnosis of peri-implantitis
Identify the risk factors in peri-implantitis and the protocol to minimize peri-implant disease
Learn the guidelines for peri-implant maintenance for the prevention of the disease and how to manage patients with peri-implantitis during periodontal maintenance
